El domingo 24 de diciembre unos cuantos salieron a bailar luego del brindis con una consigna: iba a haber una fiesta especial, difundida por mail y sms entre amigos y amigos de amigos. Terminaron en el local de Space, en Rincón del Indio, en una "noche de la nostalgia" en plena Navidad que emocionó a quienes fueron habitués de la discoteca que revolucionó el ambiente de Punta del Este entre 1990 y 2001. "Lo hicieron al mejor estilo `rave` londinense de los 90; convocaron para un lugar equis y luego lo hicieron de canuto en Space llevando a la gente en la hora y zafando de los controles", concede Alvaro Quartino, el dj que forjó la personalidad de Space. Quartino ni se enteró de la movida en lo que fue su boliche...

This was the staggering scene after a faulty gas cooker exploded in a timber-framed shack – and devastated a tiny Caribbean island.

The blast caused an inferno that leapt from hut to hut, taking less than ten minutes to sweep across Soledad Miria.

Many of the 1,014 inhabitants dived into the sea or took to fishing boats to escape. More than a third – 348 – were injured but, amazingly, no one died.
